# Method:
01 - Preheat oven to 350°F. Butter a medium baking dish approximately 8x12 inches.
02 - Arrange half of the sliced potatoes evenly in the dish. Add half of the chopped onion, minced garlic, diced ham, and grated Gruyère cheese. Season with salt, black pepper, thyme, and a pinch of nutmeg.
03 - Top with remaining potatoes, onions, ham, and cheese. Repeat seasoning evenly.
04 - Pour heavy cream uniformly over the layers, then dot the surface with remaining butter.
05 - Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes.
06 - Remove foil and continue baking for an additional 15 minutes until golden brown and bubbling.
07 - Allow to rest for 5 minutes before serving. Optionally garnish with chopped fresh parsley.
